As thousands of Unite members face a bleak and uncertain future, with over 2000 Unite GPM sector members currently facing closures or job losses, Unite has produced a ten point plan to get the economy going again and to stem job losses.

Lynn Lyon a Unite shop steward at the International Paper mill in Inverurie, Scotland gave an positive assessment of discussions currently taking place between Unite and the company over the proposed closure of the papermill, which is the lifeblood of the local community.

Unite sponsors Proskills Apprenticeship Award
Unite sponsored Achiever of the Year Award. Those in the picture are: Comedian and actor Chris Barrie, host of this years awards, Advanced Apprentice of the Year, James Davidson, Bernard Rutter and Terry Watts CEO of Proskills.

Proskills Annual Conference on the 13th November focused on Apprenticeships within the 8 sectors who make-up the “footprint” of their Sector Skills Council.

Unite slams Trinity's freeze on staff pay rises

Unite has reacted angrily to plans by Trinity Mirror to freeze pay increases for its staff in 2009. The company claimed that the severe economic downturn, which has seen decline in advertising, had led to a number of actions being taken to safeguard the business.

History of the GPMU - Book Launch
Launching the History of the GPMU: Tony Burke, John Gennard, Tony Dubbins and Geoff Hayward.

The History of the GPMU has been published by Unite and was launched at a function to mark the retirement of former GPMU General Secretary and Unite DGS Tony Dubbins at Upton Park, home of West Ham United FC.
