Promotions
St Patrick’s Day kicks off a huge and a varied schedule of promotions throughout the markets.
In Great Britain - London’s Trafalgar Square becomes a Holiday Ireland Village with thousands of consumers visiting industry partner stands and enjoying Irish entertainment as part of the London St Patrick’s Festival. Other events will include the Taste of Ireland food fare with Bord Bia at Covent Garden. A special St. Patrick’s competition will also be mounted at 116 London Underground locations, linking to the discoverireland.com website and offering a holiday in Ireland for four lucky consumers.
In the US market, Tourism Ireland has a host of activities taking place from East to West Coast including the annual Philadelphia Flower Show, the largest flower show in the world expecting up to 250,000 visitors. The theme this year is ‘Legends of Ireland’.
Some of the island of Ireland’s top Chefs are joining Tourism Ireland on US Promotions. Kevin Dundon will feature on NBC’s coverage of New York’s St Patrick’s Day parade and Chefs from the Merrion Hotel, Glenlo Abbey, Thornton’s, Brooks Hotel, Castle Leslie and Adare Manor are travelling to Boston to join in a week long series of promotional food events. Celebrity chef Rachel Allen will participate in the Taste of the World Gourmet event in New York.
In Canada there will be a St Patrick’s Week publicity blitz which includes attendance at BC Home and Garden Consumer Show in Vancouver plus an “Ireland Showcase” trade and media event.
In Australia, Lonely Planet & Dymocks (Australia’s largest bookstore) are holding an extensive Ireland promotion for members of its Booklovers club. Ireland will host the Flight Centre Global Conference in Dublin in July, attracting 1600 travel agents from Australia and other markets.
China, the fastest growing outbound tourism market, features a week long Ireland festival in Shanghai. In addition to Irish music, song and dance, Bord Bia and Tourism Ireland are providing a taste of Irish food and beverages. There is also a major Irish art exhibition featuring more than 100 Irish artists.
