Alter Hall Opening Ushers in New Era of Learning
“What I learned here has served me for a lifetime,” said Dennis Alter, Temple alumnus, chair and CEO of Advanta Corporation and generous benefactor of $15 million toward the construction and completion of Alter Hall.
“Hopefully, this building will allow tens of thousands of others to learn and aspire, not necessarily always achieving what they started out to do, but being given an opportunity and the encouragement to do so.”
On Monday, April 20, 2009, hundreds of people gathered in Alter Hall’s atrium when a shower of cherry and white confetti filled the air as the ribbon of Temple University’s new business school was cut.

Veteran Leader in Innovation and Education Says Goodbye to Temple
John DeAngelo, associate dean of information technology for the Fox School of Business, is saying goodbye after more than three decades of enhancing academic programs and integrating the newest technology throughout Temple University’s campuses.
On June 30, 2009, DeAngelo, the innovator behind Alter Hall’s cutting-edge technology, will officially retire after a 37-year career at Temple.
Today the Fox School is recognized as a technology leader at Temple University. “His years of experience in higher education, combined with his passion for technology-based learning provided the direction, leadership and operational know-how that the Fox School needed to incorporate technology into all phases of teaching and learning,” said Dean Porat. “DeAngelo’s hard work and dedication over the last 37 years at Temple and Fox will truly be missed.”

Temple’s Be Your Own Boss Bowl Sets New Records, Launches Dreams
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute’s (IEI) 11th annual Be Your Own Boss Bowl business plan competition was marked by record participation and greatly improved plan quality compared to previous years. The grand prize worth more than $50,000 in cash, Microsoft products and professional services, was awarded to Pitbull Development Corporation, a boutique real estate development firm transforming distressed properties into high-quality but affordable student housing in neighborhoods surrounding Temple University.
